After breaking open my hot football Target box, it’s time to bust the packs. I’m starting with the first pack out of the box, the 2005 Topps Total Football pack. I’ve never loved Topps Total, but I think it’s a great way to recognize every player. I think it would be pretty disappointing to be a punter or a long snapper on an NFL team and then not show up on a football card. That’s just not fair. (Full disclosure: I was a long snapper on my high school football team).

Let’s rip in:

2005 Topps Total Football

Ripped
Here’s a great way to start the post - with a side view that’s out of focus. Go me!

20 - Mike Vanderjagt/Hunter Smith
20 (IND14) - Mike Vanderjagt/Hunter Smith - This is exactly what I was talking about! Nobody wants Hunter Smith’s rookie card (or this card) but I bet he likes to see himself on a card just as much as anyone. Good for him.

104 - Troy Polamalu
104 (PIT11) - Troy Polamalu - I’m not a big fan of Polamalu (he is a Steeler, after all) but he is on the All-Name Team. The All-Hair Team, as well.

51 - Steven Jackson
51 (STL1) - Steven Jackson - I do like Jackson. Having to fill Marshall Faulk’s shoes had to be daunting, but he’s doing a pretty good job of it.

52 - Ryan Sims/John Browning
52 (KC6) - Ryan Sims/John Browning - Yeah, I got nothing here. Couldn’t tell you a darn thing about either of these guys.

10 - Quentin Jammer
10 (SD7) - Quentin Jammer - Is there a better name for a defensive back than “Jammer”?

69 - Pisa Tinoisamoa/Chris Clairborne/Dexter Coakley
69 (STL7) - Pisa Tinoisamoa/Chris Clairborne/Dexter Coakley - Okay, maybe making cards of everyone isn’t the best idea after all.

43 - Jabar Gaffney/Derrick Armstrong
43 (HOU4) - Jabar Gaffney/Derrick Armstrong - Gaffney has thrown of the shackles of playing in Houston to be playing in the Super Bowl. I hope he loses, because he is a Patriot.

541 - Anttaj Hawthorne
541 (OAK20) - Anttaj Hawthorne - This is a rookie card, but holy smokes, Anttaj is a big boy.

530 - Lionel Gates
530 (BUF17) - Lionel Gates - I don’t know what it is with guys named Gates, but I get a bunch of their cards.

219 - Patrick Ramsey
219 (WAS2) - Patrick Ramsey

TC22 - Curtis Martin
TC22 - Curtis Martin/NYJ Checklist - Wee, a checklist!

To recap:
Pack: 2005 Topps Total Football
Price: Part of Target Box

Pulls:
20 (IND14) - Mike Vanderjagt/Hunter Smith
104 (PIT11) - Troy Polamalu
51 (STL1) - Steven Jackson
52 (KC6) - Ryan Sims/John Browning
10 (SD7) - Quentin Jammer
69 (STL7) - Pisa Tinoisamoa/Chris Clairborne/Dexter Coakley
43 (HOU4) - Jabar Gaffney/Derrick Armstrong
541 (OAK20) - Anttaj Hawthorne
530 (BUF17) - Lionel Gates
219 (WAS2) - Patrick Ramsey
TC22 - Curtis Martin/NYJ Checklist

Verdict: It was a Topps Total pack. Can I really be mad when I don’t recognize half the names? This pack rates a certified, Grade-A meh.

I will admit that even though I live fairly close to Indy (1 hour away to be specific) I can’t stand the Colts. 2 Acceptions to this are Dungy and Hunter Smith. Hunter and his band (yes his BAND)Conorsvine came and performed a concert in my town. They played like 12 songs and they all sounded the same. Of course I got an autograph from him but anded up giving it to my dad as a present. Smith is a pretty nice guy and a great punter. He took the time to talk to every person who asked him for an autograph.

    @Brandon - That’s a cool story. Funny, but I just can’t picture a punter being in a band.

They were ok. They released their first album in November.
